Direct Rail Services launch another intermodal service with Eddie Stobart Limited and Tesco

Following the hugely successful award winning intermodal rail freight service provided by Direct Rail Services Limited (DRS) to Eddie Stobart Limited and Tesco, the company is pleased to announce the continued partnership and launch of yet another new intermodal service.

This 5 year contract is to provide a dedicated rail freight service between Grangemouth and Inverness. The service will run six days a week utilising specially designed 45’ curtainsided containers which give the flexibility to travel on any rail gauge in the UK.

The service will significantly reduce congestion on the A9 route to Inverness and it will remove 13,000 lorry journeys each year which is equivalent to a saving of 2610 tonnes of Co2 per year. To maximise the green benefits DRS will be utilising the environmentally friendly Class 66 locomotive.

This partnership has been a success in the past and this new flow will mirror that success and continue to meet UK government targets of reducing lorry movements on the road, lowering harmful emissions and dramatically reducing fuel consumption. DRS Managing Director Neil McNicholas adds ‘we are very pleased to continue this successful working relationship with Eddie Stobart Limited and Tesco and we are committed to helping the environment by encouraging more freight onto rail’. DRS Commercial Director also adds ‘project such as this demonstrate the successful winning formula and DRS’ reputation for a safe, secure and reliable service provision will play a major part in ensuring the customer demands are met’.
