Direct Rail Services launch another intermodal service for WH Malcolm
Direct Rail Services Limited (DRS) is pleased to announce the launch of yet another intermodal service, working in partnership with WH Malcolm Logistics Services, the Scottish haulage and distribution organisation and British Gypsum, the supplier for building materials in the UK.
The contract with WH Malcolm is to provide rail transportation for British Gypsum between Kirby Thore in Cumbria and Elderslie in Scotland, running five days a week utilising DRS’ new low emission Class 66 locomotive. Each service will transport 24 British Gypsum containers which have been specifically designed and built to support this contract.
DRS is an established rail freight company who has achieved an unrivalled level of performance in terms of reliable and timely service deliveries. Today the company has gained recognition of excellence in the rail freight industry.
This partnership will form an integrated transport solution which supports UK government targets of reducing lorry movements on the road, lowering harmful emissions and dramatically reducing fuel consumption. In one year alone this project is estimated to reduce around 80 % of ‘carbon tonnes miles’, reducing 1,768,000 road miles. DRS Commercial Director, Chris Connelly adds “we have an important and established relationship with WH Malcolm and this new project is a testimony that moving freight by rail is the way forward as it not only reduces congestion on the UK roads, but also contributes the CO2 savings which has a positive impact on the environment. ”
